The Pacific Northwest Beach National Qualifier Preview
USA Volleyball's Puget Sound Region is starting their beach programing off for 2018 with a National Qualifier for the USA National Beach Tour Championships. The Northwest event is taking place May 12-13 and qualifying athletes for the open division of the USA National Beach Tour Championships taking place in Siesta Key, Florida July 19-24.
The event is a new creation by USA Volleyball. They have merged the Junior Beach Tour and the American Beach Tour into one collaborations between USA Volleyball at the National level and it's 40 regions throughout the country. The Puget Sound Region will be just one of about 12 Regions that will host an opportunity for athletes to qualify for the Open division of the Tour Championship.
The competition is lining up to be fierce for the Open division bids with top year around beach teams from Dakine Volleyball Club and Thunder Beach leading the way.
A small division. Just three teams competing for the U12 bid. Although they are not the top ranked team in the USA Volleyball standings, our pick to win the 12s bid is Brooklyn Helle and Danielle Brown. Helle has been training for at least four years and that experience will be difficult for other teams to compete with.

The number one seed and hands down favorite in the U14 division is Ari Vetter and Kyleen Filimaua. Vetter has been competing in the AVPFirst series U16 division with her sister Avi and they look highly likely to earn a bid to the AVPFirst National Championship in Hermosa Beach. Filimaua is a good pick up for her as a partner in the 14s division and these two should finish strong in a talented field. Jasett Smith and Chloe Charles are a team that is seeded lower, but has potential to put up good results in this event as well. Smith won the Uprising Cup Season Opener with Brook Huard in late April and combined with Charles they could find themselves contending for the USA National Beach Tour bid.

This division is full of tons of familiar faces. Alina Korobko and Kaia Jones are the number one seed based on their USA Volleyball points. The number two seed is one to watch featuring the crafty lefty Maki Bispham, who is reportedly committed to the University of Arizona for beach, and the aforementioned Avi Vetter. Elizabeth Anderson and Haley Moore are a new combination for this week that will be worth keeping an eye on as well. There will be a very high level of volleyball on display in this 24 team division. If you have a chance to get out and check it out, we highly recommend it. Click Here to See the Full U16 Field
There are five teams listed in the U18 division, but two of them are boys teams. Assuming that they play on the women's height net for this, it will be interesting to see the girls ball control and beach savy match up against the boys power. Gracelyn Weg and Kelsey Otter are the number one seed and will likely take the bid. Click Here to see the U18 Field
Aiden Kim and James Nelson are the only boys team in the U16 division. They will get an open bid. Jeremy Lim and Griffin Rettig will battle against Daniel Lim and Jackson Wang for the boys U18 title. It's good to see the boys on the sand so early in the season. Hopefully, this is the start of something good.
